A Combined Power Of 3,400 Horses Will Set The Drag Strip On Fire!
The Audi TT RS is powered by a 2.5-liter, turbocharged five-cylinder engine. The engine is built and comes with a much larger turbocharger when compared to the stock unit. It churns out 1,100 horses and 738 pound-feet of torque, which is a hell lot more than the 394 ponies and 354 pound-feet of torque it makes in the stock form. The engine is mated to a seven-speed automated manual gearbox that sends the oomph to all four wheels. It is tuned by Storm Developments.
The Audi R8 is powered by a 5.2-liter, V-10 engine. In the standard form, it is naturally aspirated, but Auto Torque has plonked in two turbochargers and changed its diet to Ethanol. It now puts out 1,200 horses and 775 pound-feet of torque. This is almost double how much it makes in its best avatar in the stock form – 603 ponies and 413 pound-feet of twist. Power is sent to all the wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
Finally, the Porsche 992 911 Turbo S comes with a 3.8-liter, twin-turbo six-cylinder engine from the factory. But, ES Motor has built this and increased the displacement to 4.2 liters. It now makes 1,100 horses and 885 pound-feet of torque.
From the factory, the car generates 640 ponies and 590 pound-feet of torque. Even the lightning-quick PDK has been tuned the clutches have been upgraded. Power is routed to all the wheels here, too.
The Audi TT RS is the lightest of the lot, weighing in at 3,197 pounds. The Porsche 911 Turbo is next with a weight of 3,527 pounds, making it 330 pounds heavier than the TT RS, but 155 pounds lighter than the 3,683-pound Audi R8.
All The Three Cars Had Their Moments
The cars started with rolling races first. The first race was from 50 mph in comfort mode. The Porsche flew past the others at kickdown, followed by the R8, and then the TT RS. The TT RS was just building boost for a long time, but when it kicked down, it was a whole different animal. The second rolling race was in sports mode. The result was the same this time, too. However, the Porsche wasn’t really in line when the TT RS and the R8 started. It seemed to stay behind the vehicles and kind of accelerated sooner than them to get some sort of a head start by the time it came to level.
In the brake test, the Porsche stopped in the quickest distance, then the R8, and finally the TT RS that went the longest distance before it came to a halt. The Porsche, again, wasn’t in level. So, we’re not sure if it braked sooner than the others or not. Either way, the Porsche 911 Turbo S won this round as well.
Finally, the drag races. In the first couple of races, the R8 just didn’t seem to get the launch right and it never picked pace. The TT RS, on the other hand, changed its fortunes and sprinted to the quarter-mile line the quickest. In the third race, the Porsche beat the TT RS as well as the R8. The R8 got a slow start off the line since it went without the launch control. But, it managed to get quite close to the TT RS.
They raced once again, but this time the Porsche retired for a cooldown. So, it was Audi vs Audi. This time, the R8 beat the TT RS comfortably. Since there was no clear way to determine the winner, the team took the best times recorded by each car. The Audi TT RS, surprisingly, came last, with the best time of 9.9 seconds. The Porsche did the quarter-mile time in 9.7 seconds. The Audi R8 won, recording a time of 9.4 seconds.
