Shall We Call It An AMG Mustang?
This fusion is built by U.K.-based Anarchy Garage. The car belongs to one of the partners, Slater, who uses it as his daily driver.
The 1969 Mustang was brought from the wrecks after it was lying in a rotten condition for over two decades. But, the entire shell, frame rails, etc. are original, which truly makes this a Mustang with an AMG heart. The car looks to be quite heavy at the onset, but it weighs around 3,300 pounds.
On the outside, the folks have gotten rid of all the marker lights, since they’re mandatory only in the States. The roof gutters are gone, and so are the badges on the sides. The rear end is flushed and features a hand-made spoiler. The bumper here is set in and flushed to give a sleek look to the derriere.
The AMG Mustang rides on 10-spoke, 19-inch wheels custom-made for this ride. They’re the same size as the E-Class, but are further set in. They are shod in Michelin 285/30 section rubber. The car doesn’t come with wipers either. So, how do you get the water off? Simple. Drive fast!
As mentioned earlier, this isn’t a mere engine swap. It comes with a whole lot of ‘German engineering’.
Step inside the cabin and you’ll notice an E-Class center console, dash, and steering wheel. Even the other stuff, like the paddle shifters, launch control, the satellite navigation, etc. are in perfect working condition.
The seats are borrowed from an A-Class to match the overall theme, the door trims, and since they don’t weigh a lot.
There are many other personalized touches here, like the rear seats custom-made for kids. They come with four-point harnesses, too. The front seats, on the other hand, come with lap belts. Quite scary on a beast like this.
An American Muscle or A German Muscle?
The highlight of this car is obviously the engine. Anarchy Garage has swapped the Mustang’s engine with a 2012 AMG E63’s 5.5-liter, V-8 mill. It is one of the cleanest fits you would’ve seen in a built car. So, kudos to the team for that.
In stock form, it makes around 550 horses. But, this engine is tuned, and it now puts out 721 horses and 885 pound-feet of twist!
When compared to the GT500, it makes around 40 ponies fewer, but over 250 pound-feet of torque more!
The engine in the E63 used to sprint to 60 mph from rest in 3.5 seconds. In the Mustang’s body, it did a best of 4.69 seconds, but in damp conditions. In better conditions, it would perhaps clock early 4s. Another reason could be this being a rear-wheel-drive model. With so much power, it tends to sway sideward before rocketing in a straight line. The exhaust system comes with side exits and shoots flames! And, you must hear the pops and bangs throughout the video for the ultimate eargasm.
The brakes and suspension are borrowed from the donor E-Class, which was in a good condition but was cut for parts (God rest its soul). The rear comes with four-piston calipers, whereas the front wheels feature six-piston calipers. As for the suspension setup, it comes with adjustable ride height and adjustable damping.
With all these mods, we expected the build to get close to the six-figure mark.
But, as it turns out, the entire build cost around £24,000, which is approximately $33,000 as per the exchange rates at the time of penning this article.
This includes everything, including the two cars that were ripped and shredded to create this monster. That’s actually quite reasonable considering the amount of work done to it. It must be noted that most of the stuff was done in-house, thus the comparatively lower costs. To make the deal even sweeter, the owner noted that this is the only AMG-powered Mustang in the world.
