Does This Rendering Preview The New Subaru WRX STI? @ Top Speed

The Australian CGI artist has actually given us two versions of his take on the next-gen STI. Apparently, he has thought about people who don’t quite get why the 2022 WRX came with these plastic protectors on the wheel arches, so he did a variant of the STI with the black protectors around the wheel arches (like on the 2022 WRX) and another one where the same protectors are body-colored.

If Subaru keeps this design element for the STI, maybe it should be offered as a package for those really wanting to pretend they are rally drivers (most people will probably drive it on the road, though).

The designer actually says that he left the black protectors because, due to their texture similar to the sharkskin paint, it improves aerodynamics.

The renderings show a much more aggressive stance compared to the WRX, which is to be expected. We do not have any rearview images, but judging by the revised front fascia, which features fewer black plastics, it will probably look more dignified.

The designer has also given the STI a lot of red accents, which are reminiscent of the 1990s Impreza STI 22B model. We see them on the grille, splitter, side skirts, and what looks to be air vents for brake cooling. We also get red STI logos on what looks like placeholders for (optional) rally headlights/foglights.

Arnold seems to be quite fond of the WRX and its FA24, turbocharged flat-four unit. He does express his confusion (as do we) as to why the same engine has slightly lower numbers than other less sporty models like the Outback or XV, but we do know that the unit has plenty of tuning potential.
To back up the claim, he refers to Primemotoring who did 50 dyno pulls with an XV (Crosstrek in the US), while pushing 450 wheel-horsepower on stock internals.

Although we don’t yet know what engine the next STI will come with (maybe they’ll finally retire the EJ25), we know it’s going to pack a lot more power than the WRX. Until we know more about it, take a look at Arnold’s awesome renderings and tell us what you think about his vision of the Subaru STI.
