Ram 1500 TRX Vs Dodge Charger Hellcat: This Intra-Family Feud Has Us Hyped @ Top Speed

The TRX and The Charger Redeye Share The Same Engine

The 2021 Ram 1500 TRX features a 6.2-liter, supercharged V-8 HEMI Hellcat engine that churns out 702 horses and 650 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to all the wheels via an eight-speed, TorqueFlite automatic transmission.

The 2021 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody also comes with the same supercharged engine under the hood, but in a different state of tune. It makes 797 horses and 707 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

The Ram TRX takes 4.5 seconds to sprint to 60 mph from a standstill, which makes it the quickest production truck on sale today. The top speed is rated at 118 mph. It also comes with a Launch Control that aids perfect straight-line launches, courtesy of which this beast completes a quarter-mile run in 12.9 seconds at 108 mph on its best day.

The Charger, on the other hand, can sprint to 60 mph from rest in just 3.6 seconds and has a top speed of 203 mph! It can complete a quarter-mile run in 10.6 seconds. It was the most powerful mass-produced, non-electric sedan in the world until the Charger Super Stock snatched the crown with 10 horses and 10 pound-feet of torque more.

Did The Ram 1500 TRX Trump The Charger Redeye Widebody?

Compare all the specs and it won’t take you a second to figure out that this isn’t a fair race and the Charger is the clear winner. But, the TRX holds one advantage over its sedan-cousin – an all-wheel-drive system. The TRX comes with an all-wheel-drive system whereas the Charger Redeye features a rear-wheel-drive setup. This gives the edge to the TRX as it can launch better with all the traction in the world. But, the TRX is riding on stick off-road tires, which don’t do it any favors.

All said and done, was the truck able to beat the sedan? No. (You must be wondering, so much drama for what?!) Well, the Ram TRX took 13.76 seconds to a quarter-mile with a trap speed of 100.88 mph, whereas the Charger took just 12.42 seconds with a trap speed of 116.55 mph. It must be noted that the truck got a slightly late start, but we doubt that identical reaction times would’ve made any difference either. Also, they didn’t use the Launch Control in the races.

Coming to the second race, the truck got a better launch which helped it get a lead for a few seconds before the Super sedan sprinted past it. The TRX recorded a time of 13.82 seconds at 100.97 mph, whereas the Charger Redeye Widebody took 13.13 seconds at 117.91 mph.
