Plaid vs Hayabusa (Standing Quarter)

The Busa and Plaid line up for the quarter-mile showdown. The hammer drops, and Chris struggles for traction and starts to wheelie. He also has to deal with the wind, while in the meantime, Carlos in the Plaid is gone. So the Plaid wins on this first run. The pair line up for yet another shot, to give Chris another chance, but just as before, the Plaid dominates the Busa and wins the second time round as well.

Plaid vs Hayabusa (Rolling Race)

The Suzuki and the Tesla do a rolling start from 40 mph. Once they hit the line, the Busa jumped it and stays in the lead till the finish and it’s a narrow win for the bike. As Chris jumped the start, the pair decide to go for another run, starting again from 40 mph. When they hit the line this time around, it is neck and neck for a bit, before the Plaid starts to pull on the Busa, eventually taking the win. This is despite the Tesla not having the advantage of its’ AWD launch.

Having taken down the Hayabusa, Chris has a quicker bike to take on the Mighty Plaid. The Ninja ZX-14 R lines up against the Tesla Model S Plaid. Go!! As with the Suzuki, the ZX-14 R struggles for traction as Chris has to endure the strong winds while trying to put the bike’s 208 horsepower to the ground. But the Plaid dominates the Kawasaki as well, which failed to beat the Tesla over not one, but two passes.

With the standing quarter taken care of, it was now time for the final Roll-On runs. The pair set off from 40 mph. As they hit the line, the Ninja has a great start and pulls hard, and manages to stay in the lead till the finish line, beating the Plaid. Carlos says that he only managed 145 mph compared to 151 mph, on the rolling run against the Busa. He further adds that it could be due to performance degradation due to back-to-back runs. To give the Plaid a fair chance, the two set off once again from 40 mph for a second pass. This time, it’s much closer and the pair stay level all the way to the line, for a photo finish, with the Plaid just inching ahead.

Conclusion

Well, from these races, it is clear that the Tesla triumphs all in the standing quarter, but take the launch out of the equation, in the rolling races and the power to weight ratio of the bike, the ZX-14 R comes into play. Obviously, the Tesla is one of the slipperiest car’s out there and has more rubber to put its power down, while the bikes just had one wheel and have to also deal with the elements. Nevertheless, it was one hell of a showdown.
