The Dodge Challenger Hellcat SRT
The Dodge Challenger lineup is rather extensive and can sometimes be confusing. The Muscle Car comes in a variety of flavors adding performance upgrades and Widebody packages to diversify the lineup – essentially offering a Challenger for everyone. The Hellcat features a 6.2 Liter Supercharged Hemi V-8 engine that produces 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. It is mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The Hellcat has a 2.4-liter supercharger.
The Dodge Challenger SRT Redeye
The SRT Redeye borrows its engine from the highly revered Dodge Demon, which is purpose-built to do just one thing, dominate at the Dragstrip. The Redeye has the same 6.2 Liter Supercharged V-8, but it has been detuned to produce 797 horsepower and 707 pound-feet of torque, unlike the Demon’s 808 horsepower, and it is mated to an eight-speed auto and rear-wheel drive. The Redeye also has a bigger 2.7-liter supercharger and a high-strength prop-shaft. Overall, Dodge says that 25% of engine components are different on the Redeye when compared to the Hellcat.
In the first race, a wine-colored Redeye takes on a red Hellcat. The Redeye is wearing thicker shoes in the back and puts some rubber to the ground before lining up against the Hellcat. The lights turn green and the Hellcat gets a great start, but as the race progresses, the Redeye’s superior power starts to show and it takes the win at the quarter-mile. It’s close though.
The Redeye pulls the quarter-mile in 10.81 seconds at 130 mph, while the Hellcat manages 11.25 seconds at 123 mph.
Listening to the supercharger whine from that 6.2 Liter Hemi V-8, at full chat, is something else.
For round two, a purple Redeye takes on a dark grey Hellcat. Both cars line up for the launch. The hammer drops and the Hellcat’s driver has a poor reaction time, and as a result, the Redeye dominated this one and went on to clinch the win.
The Redeye clocked in a time of 10.45 seconds at 134.48 mph while the Hellcat was considerably slower with a quarter-mile time of 13.67 seconds at 115.31 mph.
The Dodge Challenger’s model lineup is vast, and can even be confusing at times. The performance differential between these Muscle cars that Dodge talks about can’t really be seen unless you pit them against each other on the drag strip. From these races, the Redeye’s performance edge is almost immediately apparent.
