IBD Live Q&A And Two Key Stock Lists For Sept. 28, 2021

This year has been like trying to play whach a mole with rotation 100% A terrific Tuesday to the IBD Live International Team, from Minneapolis, MN !!! Happy Tuesday Scott! Goodmorning! Hi Hunter! Now this is music. All right! Great Tune for morning, noon and night Nice! LOL Good Morning, why am I not surprised to see David Hey DT Ticker of the day JBRN Good one; Jackson Browne! Good morning from Minnesota! A worrisome song choice for a day with the good DR on. 😉 Ha! Hopefully David will offer more wisdom today Gm Team. I posted several Q&A item on Friday. Thank you for answering all of them. PaulG Great to here, Paul. Good morning Hi Phil How many Davids will we have in attendance today? 3 so far! 🙂 Whoa, weird! Gm, love jackson browne, running on empty, great choice!! Cheers, Carine! What do you think about shorting treauries in a rising interest rate enviroment? TTT and TBT I’ve always found this difficult. In hindsight, shorting TLT when it went below its 50-day line in higher volume (9/23) would’ve worked well. Seems late to short now with TLT gapping below 200-day line today. GM Team… A follow-up to my FRI Q please about identifying pullback candidates… If I have already used Manage Alerts (on the Left Panel) to check all the boxes on the Smart Alerts tab (e.g. Pullback to 10WK Line)… What is the added benefit of adding a ticker to the Smart Alerts pre-built list in MS? (or… What will I miss if I do _not_ add that ticker to the Smart Alerts pre-built list in MS (after having checked all boxes on Manage Alerts?)) Thank You -PaulG Hey Paul! This is a great question to discuss with our MarketSmith coaches. You can shoot them an email at [email protected] 🙂 I just keep getting chopped up in this market. Haven’t made any progress this year. I make money in 1 stock and lose money in 5 others. Any advice? David Ryan will be discussing the rotation in today’s episode — I’m sure the team will provide some great tips! Good Morning from Dallas! Morning John, Enjoy. ASML please live answered Good Morning IBD Live! Great to be here with you this morning. GM Shane! Had my best day ever in the market yeasteray, 13% uptice on my account! Thanks. Oil and Metals did it! Being in sync with the market rotation makes all the difference. Apple AAPL stinks. Shall I sell it? All depends on where you bought it and if you have a profit cushion. For recent buys in July/August, the big down day on 9/10 was a day to cut shares, then 9/17 and 9/21 were also days to cut/exit. Many tech stocks having a hard time right now in the rotation Good morning team. Are the XLF or FAS still actionable? They are for me. Friday would have been the day. Please comment on GLOB Would have trimmed shares yesterday with that heavy-volume decline slicing below the 21-day and closing at the lows. Let’s see if it can hold the 10-week line this week! GM IBD Live! What kind of headsets are you guys sporting this AM? Most of us use Sennheiser David, a couple weeks ago you discussed IQV. Wondering your thoughts now after yesterday’s decline. Last week marked a decisive break below the 10-week line — the first time IQV has done that in about 11 months or so. That signals to us the stock needs time at the very least to build a base. CAN we take a look at DOCU ….. Not the shining star it was in June/July. The decisive close below the 10-week line the week of 9/10 was a key sell signal. Chris, If you’re heavy in Tech stocks right now, would you buy SQQQ at market at open to hedge or wait a little bit? Asking for a friend… Yes. It’s an easy way to instantly reduce your exposure. Always the best when you sign in and see David Ryan looking back at ya!!! 100%. i can see you all. is the camera off We’re sharing charts now! Are we rotating out of tech and growth into energy and financials? Perhaps for the rest of the year based on tapering? That’s the current rotation, yes. But we don’t know how long the rotation will last. Cloudflare (NET) cut 10-wk, watching for how it closes week; thoughts? Always a good idea to see how a leader closes for the week, but with NET now 6% below its 10-week line, I’d be a seller if I bought shares at the June breakout. TDG has gone straight up for days. Seems like the retake of the 50-day was an interesting early entry Justin, GLOB – yesterday was ugly, it has 8 week hold rule…. live answered Can someone help DSC with the screen settings please? The audience can see only one person at a time insteadf of the entire panel. Fixed! Thanks. I’d like to see you talk about BMY. Its a good stock that got beaten down really bad. What would signal a turarround and what is the sector outlook. So many red days in a row, the stock trading well below its 200-day, RS of 19 — this stock needs a lot of time before it’s on our radar. Also, if you look at a monthly chart, the stock has never really outperformed the S&P. So you’d be better off owning SPY than this MRNA? down from pfe news or just the market?broke support and mov avg Would’ve been a good idea for those who bought recently to have been trimming. Support at the 50-day/10-week will be key DSC – thanks much for displaying only the host speaking rather then all four hosts – it increases screen real estate for charts and is much appreciated ! Good to know, Wayne! SBLK gapped up on its continued strength after Charles Harris’ clinic on it last Thursday! live answered One of market leaders Cloudflare down big. Has really cracked below the 50 day. Hasn’t been there since May. Yes, a sell signal for sure Leaderboard: Before The Open Updated 9/28/2012 8:21 AM has Position Table as of 9/17/2021…can this be updated to 9/24/2021? Thank you. Thanks Albert, I’ll take a look. GM team! Any comments on PLTR this morning? A close below the 21-day would mark the first time since the bottoming base breakout — would look to trim “TSLA up again during a weak market opening, up 15 of the last 17 days or so!” Wow really shaking off the tech weakness, at least for now Comments on BNTX price action vs just submitted data 5-12Y to FDA? What is the chart telling us? The chart was telling us to sell on Monday and Friday. Friday was the first close below the 50-day line in the stock’s advance, then Monday’s plunge had the stock undercut its lows around 320 by quite a bit can you comment on DLO Looks poised to revisit its last breakout area. Not a buyer here but wouldn’t be surprised to see it find support at 50-day line. XLF, would you buy it here? We were saying how last Thursday/Friday would’ve been ideal xle live answered what are your thoughts on AMD? thank you! We noted it as actionable yesterday. Also said if it closes below Monday’s low, that would be a place to sell TEAM, HOW LONG TO HOLD FOR POSSIBLE REVERAL? Great Q; I think the draw of the line below the early lows on QQQ, SPY, as explained by David and Justin, take the time factor out. When the market drops so much at the open, do you stick to your stop rules (7-8%) or wait until the end of the day. Seems like every time I stick to my sell rules, the market comes roaring back at the end of the day and I could have recovered. The risk of waiting until the end of the day is that the 7-8% loss could be bigger by end of day. The market isn’t healthy right now, so I’d lean toward cutting losses sooner rather than later. snap what is happening live answered SNAP was going super good anda now … what do we do? thanks live answered David Ryan – What about looking at ASML as oversold soon and a chance to buy on the pullback live answered GM to all. Can David comment on PKI and INMD. Thanks. live answered buy on breakout and it will break your heart LOL Ah it can Darryl! M in CAN SLIM! with the 5 day distribution days in Nasdaq and Sp500, is it better to buy stocks in other indexes? We’ve been looking at small caps with the strength in energy and financials re BNTX, is there bad news today? stock dropping I don’t think so. Medical “products” medical products – biotechs/products/systems all getting hit again … MRNA/BNTX, IDXX, TMO, CRL, ISRG How about ALGN? If you bought on the move on earnings or even earlier, it’s triggering a sell signal today with the drop below the 50-day. Could potentially wait for end of week for final sell to see if it can hold the 10-week if you have a profit in the trade FTNT has pierced it’s 10 wk after finding support at that level all year — would you lighten up on a big gain at this point ? I would, yes. SBLK live answered Thoughts on YETI Was an interesting setup, but it has now undercut its lows in the base around 94, well below its 10-week line. Triggering a sell signal here Hatman – this is truly helpful on SNAP and ASML. Would you please look at PLTR and INMD – Thanks live answered Your feelings on AMD We noted it as actionable yesterday. Also said if it closes below Monday’s low, that would be a place to sell MA is now offering BNPL processing to banks announced this morning Yes. INMD! Whales! We were saying yesterday it would’ve been a good time to take some profits into strength. And ask yourself if you’re comfortable with a drop to the 10-day, 21-day, etc. What’s the next support of TASK (looking to add to a current position ) I’d expect a correction to test the 10-week MA. If that happens, it would be a big enough drop for a new base to form! Which stock is the tech leader to watch today as bellwether for the sector potential rebound/final breakdown? ASAN comes to mind. I got caught in the MRNA carnage…I should sell, but should I wait till end of day to see if it recovers? Down 8%. Good grief! Very important to cut losses, save capital, and look to a better buy point. MRNA certainly made a huge move. Maybe it’s time for more base building. please discuss inmode forward split impact on stock price and technical analysis live answered David, please comment on IIPR. Down 4%in position, but still above 50 day line. Would you hold to see if it holds the 50 or cut losses before the 7-8% sell rule? Selling doesn’t have to be an all-or-nothing decision — can trim here and then see if it can find support at 50-day/10-week or if it triggers the 7-8% sell rule. Almost always we aren’t waiting until we see a 7-8% loss, we’re trimming beforehand. We did a selling series with David Ryan that reviewed these strategies GM! Can you talk about dividend stocks Hi Ruth! Here’s the section of our site that covers dividend stocks: https://www.investors.com/category/research/the-income-investor/ how about UPST It’s been respecting the 10-day line for this entire advance, so a close below the 10-day could be the first area to trim some team mentioned paypal long term stock this morning, can you please talk more about long term holds and when is time to sell a long term. Check out this article and video for our buy/sell rules for long-term leaders! https://www.investors.com/research/best-long-term-stocks/ INMD $140 puts bought both hands Thanks for sharing, Juan In Bills book he describes the 25-50% climax gain on split announcement, which inmode had 25% last week Exactly right. And we look at a number of other rules that indicate climactic action, including the biggest single-day gain, exhaustion gaps, up 8 of the 9 past days, or 12 of the past 15. U please I’d be locking in some profits just in case this rotation out of tech persists. It’s been able to find support near the 21-day along this run, so let’s see if it finds support there or no DELL-Holding up, just turned up definitely has a low P-E working in its favor. The higher multiple names are getting hit the hardest. OAS breakout failing as well live answered CPE runs fast bc it is highly levered, is considered a risky name in the grp, and has a really low P/E. live answered Team – please comment on IIPR. Down 4%in position, but still above 50 day line. Would you hold to see if it holds the 50 or cut losses before the 7-8% sell rule? If it were me, I’d wait and see what a test of 50-day line looks like. I sold my last IIPR on 9/14. ETSY is falling apart today. One of many high multiple stocks under selling pressure. Every stock on IBD Ready list is down. Curious; does that happen very often? Good question. It’s a hard, broad sell-off – so you’d expect to see the vast majority of “ready” stocks down. Leading stocks typically fall more than the market. hi Ali, what’s the link for that selling series with David Ryan? thanks! Hi Ezekiel! We have them linked at investors.com/LiveFAQ in our “Show Highlights” section — I’ll be adding another one to that section later today! Is anyone on the panel up big this year? I’m about to go negative on the year with today’s action. It’s disheartening to see someone like Mark Minervini up 230% and I can’t even gain 1% this year. Feels like a futile endeavor trying to trade this market. I fell like I’ve worked my tail off to be up 10%. Not thrilled with performance, but a meaninful pullback and bona fide follow through day will set the stage for new leadership, and that’s where the outperformance will really come. Thanks, Ali! Can you please share when David Ryan did the selling series strategies? He did it over the course of several weeks beginning in mid-August. We have them linked at investors.com/LiveFAQ in our “Show Highlights” section — I’ll be adding another one to that section later today! DKNG , can we add here ? With the heavy volume behind sharp declines, the stock slicing through its 50-day/200-day and continuing to head south, we would not be trading DKNG here. Plus, we don’t like adding to stocks into weakness/averaging down unless it’s a leading stock in an uptrend with a pullback/reversal off the 50-day Is Energy sector up against resistance right now? Maybe – but energy prices are off their highs as well. INMD….any news? 2-for-1 stock split happening this week (9/30) ?EW Triggering a sell signal with the break below the 50-day. But depends on where you got in/if you’re treating it like a long-term leader. If position trading, see if it closes 2% or more below the 10-week by Friday’s close for your final sell Oops, should have taken profits in AVTR Yesterday would’ve been a good day, but today as well! David Ryan mentioned last week that he sold PKI a while back. Was that stock related or market related? I didn’t see the stock do anything wrong until last 2 weeks. Likely when it sliced below the 21-day on 9/13 This is a fun website. I was tracking a ship recently that was carrying some items for me. Interesting! https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/home/centerx:-12.0/centery:24.8/zoom:4 Thanks for sending, Nancy! But who is responsible for the sector rotation as its not the mutual funds???? Don’t forget about the hedge funds. They’re dominant players, too, these days. On MarketSmith, how do you scroll through all of the groups? Can you explain on this since the industry group in MS is not ETF where people can trade This is a good question for our MS product coaches! [email protected] I had the container number from the shipper. Then I used https://www.shipmentlink.com/ to find what ship that container was on. It depends on how transparent the companies you buy from want to be. Wow, good to know! I just added to my SNAP as it reversed off the 50-day. I will keep a very tight stop on it. Maybe reversing on the intraday… we’ll have to see if it turns into a meaningful bounce on the daily! “Homing In” Absolutely! Homing In – David gets it right. Most say honing! Thanks Kevin! And I use both words! Cheers In the faq, the ‘questions answered live’ do not show answers but I want to see the answers to those questions BECAUSE I could’n’t watch. Those are generally about our stocks critical moves. Advice? If it says “answered live” that means the team verbally discussed the topic on the show! 🙂 I see how he got the industry groups numbers. [email protected] Thanks Alissa and David, great lesson for the day. learning so much with IBD live. great team and guest. Thanks for the great feedback, glad you’re enjoing the show!! David C, that was a good idea to play the groups. Glad you enjoyed it Joanna Noticed Airlines have been breaking the downtrend. Indeed, I think we’ll watch travel more. Is PLTR sell today? live answered would you buy F here or is it extended – I didn’t hear if you said 7.2% above the 10-week so not too extended by that measure! TSLA broke out pivot holding up well, still actionable? Yes – still above 764.55 handle. I didn’t like the minimal shakeout in the handle (a couple intraday moves at most) — nothing on the weekly. But Friday/Monday moves were on higher volume. Holding up better than a lot of growth stocks. Should you wait until the end is the week before making decisions If you’re down 7%-8%, you should be getting out. If you’re giving a big chunk of your gains or seeing a modest winner turn into a loser, you might want to take some profits now. With long-term winners, you can take more time. Keep in mind, this all depends on your overall exposure, the size of your specific positions, the size of your cushion/loss and of course your own investing style! Alissa, right, answered live but I can’t get those answers unless I watch the whole show? Can you do a time stamp on those? At this time, we have 2x playback speed enabled for the show replays and we list the tickers (roughly) in the order they’re discussed! Hopefully that helps!! Chris, are you still holding your tqqq? Half hedged overnight and fully hedged now. Thank You David and David! You got it I would say the hardest part for me in portfolio management is selling on weakness and then trying to buy back. Usually unsuccessful in buying back. Would you be able to talk about this some day? Love this! Saving for a poll. Thanks, Linda 🙂 U please? Is it okay to start a position in a couple of days? live answered any followup comments on BILL after yesterdays; IBDLive discussion? Chris said it’s one he was watching as it was close to the 21-day, but not buying. Maybe if it can break its downtrend in some heavy volume? But right now, still looks like it’s setting up, not actionable. Hatman, Do you think your the comment about WHD is way up from last year’s low speaks to DR’s comments last week about the run showing some age? That does make sense. Hi evreyone, a technical queston here. Any idea why my MS doesn’t show the daily range % close? 🤷🏻‍♂️ Hi Luca! please email [email protected]
