Harvey Weinstein has denied Angelina Jolie’s allegation that he tried to sexually assault her when she was 21 years old.

Jolie, 46, claimed in a new interview with the Guardian that the alleged incident occurred when she was working on the 1998 movie Playing By Heart.

She claims that the producer made unwanted advances towards her in a hotel room, and that she had to physically escape the room.

The Maleficent star said: ‘If you get yourself out of the room, you think he attempted but didn’t, right? The truth is that the attempt and the experience of the attempt is an assault… It was beyond a pass, it was something I had to escape.

‘I stayed away and warned people about him. I remember telling Jonny [Lee Miller], my first husband, who was great about it, to spread the word to other guys – don’t let girls go alone with him.’

Convicted rapist Weinstein called the allegations ‘brazenly untrue’ in a statement issued by his assistant, and claimed that Jolie was attempting to drum up sales for her new book, Know Your Rights and Claim Them.

The statement shared with TMZ read: ‘It’s very clear to me that this is for more sales on Angie’s BOOK. THERE WAS NEVER an assault, and NEVER an attempt to assault.

‘It is brazenly untrue and clickbait publicity. You’re Angelina Jolie, every male and female in the world, I’m sure, shows interest in you. Is the whole world assaulting you?’

Weinstein, 69, is serving a 23-year sentence for rape and sexual assault.

He faces further charges of rape, sexual battery and other crimes in connection with five incidents that allegedly occurred between 2004 and 2013 in Los Angeles.

Jolie had previously alleged she had a ‘bad experience with Harvey Weinstein in my youth’, telling The Times in 2017: ’As a result, chose never to work with him again and warn others when they did.

‘This behaviour towards women in any field, any country is unacceptable.’

The actress alleged in The Guardian interview that she and ex Brad Pitt fought about him working with Weinstein, after he starred in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, which was distributed by The Weinstein Company.

Pitt then reportedly asked Weinstein to be a producer on his film Killing Them Softly, which was distributed by TWC.

Jolie, who remains locked in a custody battle over five of her and Pitt’s six children, said: ‘Of course it hurt.’

The pair split in 2016, and a judge has since declared the stars legally single.
