JoJo Siwa Just Made History on ‘Dancing With the Stars’

JoJo Siwa and Jenna Johnson just made history as the first same-sex duo on Dancing With the Stars.

At season 30 of DWTS, this change is long overdue. Siwa’s partner is pro dancer and season 26 champion Jenna Johnson.

“I think it breaks a wall that’s never been broken down before,” Siwa said during the Television Critics Association summer press tour. “I think it’s really special that, not only now do I get to share with the world that you’re going to love who you want to love, but also you can dance with who you want to dance with.”

Their quickstep performance to Jet’s “Are You Gonna Be My Girl” wowed the judges during the premiere, earning them the first place spot.

Siwa celebrated the night with an Instagram post of the performance, captioning it, “You. Betta. WINK!!! That was THE BEST ever!!!!😭🌟 I can’t even believe that week 1 is over!!! @jennajohnson I couldn’t ask for a better partner! Thank you for taking me through this process while making it the most fun ever. The CREW on DWTS is so amazing, the CAST is all so fun! Making history and Top score of the night was literally a dream come true for me. Chase every dream you have and believe in yourself. Know that I love you all and I am smiling so big right now because of you, we did this !!! 💖🌈🎀.”

Johnson gushed about Siwa in her own Instagram post, commending her for their history-making performance.

“JoJo Siwa. There aren’t enough words to express my absolute admiration for you,” Johnson wrote. “The moment I met you, I knew that you were going to change my life. You are full of love, laughter, positivity, and GLITTER!!! Thank you for an epic night… (and saving me from falling flat on my face 😵) FIRST EVER SAME SEX COUPLE!!!! And I’m proud to say it. Night one down and (hopefully) many more to go! 🧡💜💚”

Siwa came out to the world in January, sharing joy in being a member of the LGBTQ+ community over Instagram and TikTok. Watch her awe-inspiring performance, above.
