Julia Bradbury has received her Covid-19 vaccine booster jab, ahead of undergoing a mastectomy in the coming weeks.

The 51-year-old revealed earlier this month that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer and will undergo an urgent mastectomy next month.

Ahead of the surgery, the Countryfile star got her booster jab to ensure she is as ‘Covid-safe as I possibly can be’.

In a video shared to Twitter, Julia filmed herself as she received her jab.

She said: ‘Here I am, having my booster jab because I’m having an operation in a few weeks’ time, so I want to make sure that I’m as Covid-safe as I possibly can be pre the op, and obviously post the op as well.

‘That’s it, all done, honestly didn’t hurt at all, and I feel very grateful that I’ve been able to have it. Thank you NHS.’

Julia also shared an article containing quotes from Professor Sharon Peacock, the executive director of the Covid-19 UK Genomics Consortium, reading: ‘If we don’t vaccinate as many people as possible around the world & there is uncontrolled transmission & infection, then that is the right training ground for the virus.’

In October, the Watchdog star will have her left breast removed after a six centimetre tumour was found, while tissue from her lymph nodes will also be removed to establish whether the disease has spread.

Speaking to the Mail On Sunday, Julia said: ‘Ultimately, if a mastectomy helps you repair then it is a good thing. But it does feel like losing a part of you, part of your sexual identity and part of your experience of motherhood.

‘I breast-fed my babies from that boob and when I look down I picture my twins and Zeph before them on it. That hurts.’

Julia discovered her diagnosis while filming a nature series for This Morning, and shared the news on social media earlier this month.

The mum-of-three tweeted: ‘I’m sad to say that I’ve just been diagnosed with breast cancer & need urgent surgery. Please self-check regularly & if you have any unexplained pain, tenderness or lumps, please ask for checks & follow ups. And ask for a 2nd opinion if you’re not happy.’

Victoria Derbyshire, who has battled breast cancer herself, replied: ‘Hello Julia, I want to send all my love and strength to you . I am totally here if you want to chat/scream/drink. And totally respect you may want to simply be with those who hold you close.’

Strictly star Dan Walker added: ‘So sorry to hear about this Julia. Very brave of you to spread such an important message. Massive amounts of love & to you and your family’, while Paddy McGuinness tweeted: ‘So glad you got that check up Bradders. Can’t imagine how difficult it is but I hope your road to recovery is short and pothole free.’
