Piers Morgan gutted as he’s mistaken for Jeremy Clarkson by excitable fan

Piers Morgan has revealed his displeasure over being mistaken for Jeremy Clarkson by an excitable fan.

After a self-described ‘bacchanalian dinner’ at a private members’ club, the controversial broadcaster was spotted by a keen Scandinavian fan the following morning, while ‘deeply hungover’ outside his local café.

Writing in his Event column for The Mail on Sunday, Piers recounted the fan approaching him, writing: ‘”Excuse me, sir”, he said in a Scandinavian accent, “but it is you? The TV presenter?”’

‘I smiled and nodded. “It is, yes”.’

The ex-Good Morning Britain star then claimed the man ‘almost self-combusted with excitement’.

Here’s the kicker, as the fan responded: ‘”I knew it! Mr Clarkson from Top Gear! It is so great to meet you, I’m a massive fan!”‘

Piers was unimpressed, slyly writing that his ‘smile disappeared faster than Boris Johnson is currently deleting his text messages’.

Piers and ex-Top Gear star Jeremy had a long-standing feud that had even blown up into physical fights over the years, but they appear to have buried the hatchet in recent years and leave it at good-natured sniping these days.

In December, they worked together on a charity special of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, but Piers was humiliated when he crashed out with just £1,000.

However, motoring expert Jeremy then suffered his own embarrassment on the show he hosts after giving contestant comedian Ronni Ancona the wrong answer for a question on UK motorways.

Piers also revealed in his column that he considers his ‘live TV nadir’ to have been at CNN, when he announced the death of American comedian Patrice O’Neal as breaking news, without knowing the star and making the ‘disastrous assumption’ that O’Neal was a woman.

Piers took the opportunity to wish Alastair Campbell all the best too on his debut as a Good Morning Britain presenter next week, which Piers described as ‘the latest ‘try-out’ for my old job’.

He praised Alastair as ‘a properly trained and very experienced journalist, which I think every news presenter should be’.

Piers left Good Morning Britain in March after he was criticised for comments about not believing Meghan when she said she was denied help from the Palace while experiencing suicidal thoughts – his rant received more than 59k Ofcom complaints.
