Celebrity journalist Maria Menounos revealed her mother Litsa Menounos died from brain cancer after an almost five-year battle.

The former E! News host, who is Greek-American, took to Instagram on May 1 and wrote: ‘RIP mom. god loved her so much he took her on greek easter.’

She also added ‘Christ is risen mom’ in her mother’s native language.

Maria, 42, wrote the caption alongside a black and white image of herself hugging her mother as they lay together on a bed.

In the touching image, two dogs could also be seen sleeping on top of the blankets.

Sunday marked the Greek Orthodox Christian celebration of Easter.

A few hours before she confirmed the death of her mom, Maria had posted about watching an online service with her 65-year-old mother.

Stars expressed their condolences in the comments section as Total Bellas star Nikki Bella wrote: ‘RIP. sending you and the fam so much love light and prayers.’

Litsa had been diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer and late last year, Mari revealed the brain tumor was still growing.

In 2017, the journalist had to stand down as an anchor of E! News after she underwent surgery to remove a brain tumor.
