Fantasy Premier League: Five players to watch in gameweek nine featuring Man City star

The Premier League continues this weekend with hundreds of thousands of Fantasy Premier League players making key changes ahead of Gameweek 9, so we looked at five players that could help improve your league position.

Fantasy Premier League players will need to have their teams for gameweek nine confirmed and locked in by 18:30 BST on Friday, October 22.

Many FPL players have opted to switch-up their attacking options ahead of the weekend, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Romelu Lukaku being the most transferred players out of FPL teams this week, with over 800,000 players transferring the two strikers out in favour of other players.

Jamie Vardy looks to be the favourite choice for FPL players heading into Gameweek 9, with Leicester City travelling away to Brentford, with the 34-year-old having scored seven goals and recorded one assist in his eight Premier League appearances so far this season.

So, who are the players to watch and have in your Fantasy Premier League teams ahead Gameweek 9?

Fantasy Premier League: Five players to watch in Gameweek 9

Bernardo Silva – Manchester City – £7.0m

Bernardo Silva’s FPL Profile.

The Portuguese playmaker has established himself ahead of Ilkay Gundogan as part of Manchester City’s midfield this season, having started all of the previous seven matches.

The 27-year-old returned double-figure hauls against Leicester City and Burnley in recent weeks, after scoring in both games, matching his overall goal tally from last season in just eight games.

Man City’s schedule in the coming weeks gives Bernardo the chance to deliver more returns as Pep Guardiola’s side visit Brighton & Hove Albion this weekend before entertaining Crystal Palace in Gameweek 10.

At a cost of just £7.0m, Bernardo can appeal as a relatively budget-friendly option for managers looking to invest in Man City’s potent attack.

Ivan Toney – Brentford – £6.4m

Ivan Toney’s FPL Profile.

Ivan Toney has been in fine form for Brentford in their debut season in the Premier League, registering two goals and two assists in eight games so far.

Brentford’s game schedule looks favourable for Toney, starting with Leicester City this weekend who are yet to keep a clean sheet away from home this season, conceding nine away goals in four matches, the second worst away record in the league.

After their match with Brendan Rodgers’ side, the Bees face each of the bottom three clubs – Burnley, Norwich City and Newcastle United – in successive gameweeks.

With Toney’s potential to provide both goals and assists, he can reward managers who put their faith in him with huge point hauls over his favourable upcoming schedule.

Ben Chilwell – Chelsea – £5.7m

Ben Chilwell’s FPL Profile.

Ben Chilwell didn’t play a single minute in the first six gameweeks, with Marcos Alonso (£5.9m) being Thomas Tuchel’s preferred option as the Blues’ left wing-back.

Chilwell has started back-to-back games in recent weeks and taken his chance in the starting line-up, scoring against Southampton and Brentford totalling 23 points in the last two gameweeks.

Chelsea ’s short-term schedule favours Chilwell with the Blues facing each of the bottom three clubs, Norwich City, Newcastle United and Burnley, in the next three gameweeks, suggesting Chelsea can add to their total of five clean sheets, the second best clean sheet record in the Premier League.

Andros Townsend – Everton – £5.7m

Andros Townsend’s FPL Profile.

Andros Townsend has been a revelation for Everton so far this season, after joining the club on a free transfer in the summer.

Townsend is the joint-fifth top-scoring midfielder with a season total of 45 points after eight games, registering three goals and two assists for the Toffees.

At a budget price of just £5.7m, over 150,000 managers have made Townsend their top priority in midfield for Gameweek 9, with Everton playing against a struggling Watford side at Goodison Park.

Jamie Vardy – Leicester City – £10.1m

Jamie Vardy’s FPL Profile.

Jamie Vardy has been one of the most consistent point scorers so far this season and is the top-scoring forward in Fantasy over the opening eight gameweeks of 2021/22.

Vardy has scored five goals in his last four games, registering eight goal contributions in eight games totalling 50 points so far this season.

Vardy’s performances have shown he is a reliable source of big returns for FPL managers, claiming eight or more points on five occasions, with more expected at the weekend against Brentford.

Over 312,000 Fantasy Premier League managers have brought the forward into their teams for Leicester’s trip to Brentford on Sunday, encouraged by Vardy’s record in away games with the striker producing 28 points in his last three matches on the road.

The Foxes also begin a favourable run of fixtures starting this weekend, and with Vardy in prolific form, FPL managers can expect to earn plenty of points in the coming weeks.
