Former Little Mix singer Jesy Nelson has been teasing her debut solo single, which features US rapper Nicki Minaj, for weeks, with fans desperate to hear it in full
Jesy Nelson has finally announced when her debut solo single will be released.
Taking to Instagram, she shared the cover art for Boyz featuring Nicki Minaj, which showed her posing alongside the US rapper.
She wrote: “ITS TIME @nickiminaj 8.10.21 #Boyz”
Jesy has a cool look on the cover, posing in a black bralet and white shorts.
Her white blonde hair hangs straight and loose, falling all the way down to her knees as she leans forward, sticks her tongue out and winks for the camera.
She’s accessorised with a black beanie hat and is wearing cool black and white trainers and black socks.
Nicki looked just as incredible in a thigh-skimming black dress, fluffy white waistcoat and fluffy black boots as she leaned over next to Jesy while hiding her eyes beneath a pair of fancy shades.
A parental advisory warning sticker on the bottom corner of the cover tells fans there’ll be some swear words included in the track, which fans will have to wait just one more week to hear.
It comes just a few days after she hinted that her debut solo single was imminent in a cheeky cryptic post.
The former Little Mix star, who quit the girlband last year, had shared a post on her Instagram story that read: “I spy with my little eye something beginning with…. B”.
It was thought that her new track was called Boyz ’21.
And earlier today, she teased her fans in much the same way, writing on her Instagram story: “I spy with my little something beginning with…….”
A second post then read: “6pm”, followed with the eyes emoji and a monkey holding its hands over its mouth.
Jesy, 30, has said that she’s finally making the music she wants.
As she teased the song in a video on her social media, she was heard saying: “For me, this is the music that I’ve always wanted to make.”
She later said: “You can genuinely believe something up. If you want it you can make it happen – you can manifest it.”
When she quit the band – who won X Factor in 2011 – last year, she said it was for the wellbeing of her own mental health.
Since then, she’s spoken out about her time in the group in a less than favourable way.
She recently told the Reign With Josh Smith podcast : “I had times and moments when I really loved it, but it felt like there were way more times that I was sad than I was happy.
“I don’t think people realise how hard it is to be in a girl band. There’s a lot that comes with it that people don’t know about.
“And obviously I don’t get to make my own decisions. Three people have to agree as well, so there would always be disagreements on certain things.”
She also called Little Mix a “machine”, claiming she could never switch off and had her decisions made for her.
Jesy’s collaboration with Nicki hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing.
It’s the second time she’s worked with the US rapper, who also featured on Little Mix song Woman Like Me.
Last month, Jesy had been due to take centre stage at the MTV VMAs in New York to perform her new song, but the plans collapsed when Nicki pulled out of the event.
It’s believed that Nicki recorded her part for the song one month after Jesy’s label had originally planned to release it.
