One of the most striking photos of the Duchess of Cambridge shows how she is a Queen in waiting, a royal expert has claimed.

A stunning image of Kate was snapped as she arrived at Prince Philip’s funeral in April and has since captured the public’s imagination.

It shows Kate arriving at St George’s Chapel in Windsor in her car wearing a black face mask and a thin lace veil pulled across her eyes.

And according to royal author Emily Andrews, the gorgeous snap – and her presence at the event – proved she was fit to be the future Queen.

Emily told the Channel 5’s documentary, Kate: Our Queen in Waiting: “Here was a woman at the top of her game, perfectly turned out.

“But also, quite rightly, taking her place as one of the most senior members of the Royal Family.

“I think it was one of those photographs where you really saw Queen Catherine in waiting, frankly.”

It has been a busy time for Kate and her second-in-line to the throne husband Prince William lately, with the pair being seen out and about at many different events.

In the past month, they’ve attended the premiere of the new James Bond movie, visited Northern Ireland and carried out an engagement at Kew Gardens.

Next month, they will join the Queen, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall at the Cop26 climate change summit in Glasgow.

And last night, while attending William’s Earthshot Prize awards, Kate made a passionate plea to viewers to help save the planet.

For the event, she wore a lilac Alexander McQueen dress made for her in 2011, which she previously wore to a BAFTA dinner in Los Angeles.

And while presenting a prize at the ceremony, she spoke about the importance of a “thriving natural world” and how it helps both physical and mental health.

She said: “A thriving natural world regulates our climate, nurtures our physical and mental health, and helps feed our families.

“But for too long, we have neglected our wild spaces. And now we are facing a number of tipping points.

“If we don’t act now, we will permanently destabilise our planet.

“And we will rob our children of the future they deserve.

“Our Earthshot Prize Finalists show us, however, that we can, by 2030, see the natural world growing, not shrinking, for the first time in centuries.”
