Little Mix’s raging row snaps that signalled end before Jesy Nelson exit

Photos of Little Mix – who were formed with Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Jade Thirlwall and Perrie Edwards at the time – showed them rowing outside a rehearsal room. The photos were taken months before Jesy revealed she was quitting the band

Jesy Nelson announced she was leaving Little Mix in December 2020.

The news came as a surprise to some fans but others suspected that tensions were mounting between the singer and bandmates Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Jade Thirlwall and Perrie Edwards.

Speculation was rife that all was not rosy between the women as five months prior to Jesy’s bombshell announcement snaps emerged of the band rowing after leaving rehearsals.

In the snaps captured at the end of July 2020, the musicians did little to hide their stoney-faced expressions as they waited on transport to get home.

Jesy was seen walking out of the door in the captures followed by Jade.

A scowling Leigh-Anne then stepped outside and they all walked off in separate directions.

Jesy was then snapped involved in an animated chat with Jade and was seen gesticulating with her hands.

Jesy then chose to sit away from her bandmates on a concrete bollard where she looked pensively and distracted herself with her phone.

Leigh-Anne was also seen looking down at her own phone and Perrie was absent from the photos with an onlooker saying at the time that fellow Little Mix star walked out of rehearsals 15 minutes prior to the unconformable scenes being caught on camera.

The photos were taken just after they returned to work to promote their single Holiday – which was their first in four months after the release of Break Up Song during the first lockdown in March 2020.

Months after the tense snaps, Jesy quit Little Mix and told fans she had to leave the girl group to protect her mental health.

“I find the constant pressure of being in a girl group and living up to expectations very hard,” she said at the time.

The band, now a trio, said they supported Jesy and her future endeavours and even thanked her when picking up the best British Group Brit Award in 2021.

But in recent days friction between the foursome has blown up after Jesy released her first solo single since leaving the band.

Jesy came under fire from fans for the music video for her song Boyz as she has been accused of blackfishing – a term that refers to someone who is pretending to be black or mixed-race – due to sporting a dark tan and braided hair in the video.

Following messages on social media slamming the performer, Leigh-Anne has been accused of fanning the flames after eagle-eyed fans noticed she liked a TikTok video blasting Jesy for having skin the same tone as Trinidadian Nicki Minaj’s in her new video.

This was not the only hint that the two are not pals as messages allegedly penned by Leigh-Anne from her Instagram account were leaked where she blasted Jesy.

Over the weekend, TikTok sensation NoHun revealed a string of screenshotted messages to him from a user claiming to be Leigh-Anne.

The chart-topper’s account also appears to suggest to the content creator that he should create a video on solo singer Jesy blackfishing.

NoHun shared a screengrab of the text message chat – which there is no confirmation that it is legit – to unveil a message from Leigh-Anne claiming Jesy blocked her, Jade and Perrie on social media and calling her a “horrible person.”

Jesy later responded to the blackfishing backlash saying that she is “aware she is a white British woman”.

The Essex-born singer told Vulture in an interview: “I’m very aware that I’m a white British woman; I’ve never said that I wasn’t.

“But I mean, like, I love Black culture. I love Black music. That’s all I know; it’s what I grew up on.”

Jesy then denied she was even wearing fake tan when shooting the video and said during an Instagram Live stream with superstar rapper Nicki Minaj that she had been to Antigua weeks before the video shoot so she was tanned already.

Jesy left Little Mix in December

Jesy said during the livestream: “I personally want to say that my intention was never, ever to offend people of colour with this video and my song because like I said, growing up as a young girl, this is the music that I listened to.

“These are the videos that I watched and thought were the best. For me personally, ’90s/2000 hip hop, R&B music was the best era of music.

“I just wanted to celebrate that. I just wanted to celebrate that era of music because it is what I love.”

She continued: “My intention was never, ever, ever want to offend anyone and genuinely it actually does really hurt me that I may have offended people and actually, like, hurt people’s feelings just by genuinely celebrating something that I love.”
