Love Island star Jake Cornish has told his ex Liberty Poole he couldn’t have a relationship outside of the villa because he’s ‘too busy’ for romance. The star’s latest comments have revived fans’ fears about Jake’s motivations for coupling up with Liberty on the show
Love Island star Jake Cornish has told his ex-girlfriend Liberty Poole he’s “too busy” to pursue a relationship after leaving the villa.
Jake, 24, and Liberty, 21, left the show together just days before the final after their romance crumbled and the former Nando’s waitress decided to end it for good.
The pair got back together for a chat at a rooftop bar for the Love Island reunion show which aired last night, and Jake told her their relationship wouldn’t have worked on the outside anyway as he doesn’t have time for a girlfriend.
Liberty, who was joined by pal Kaz Kamwi for moral support, was seen asking Jake why he hadn’t been in contact since they left the show.
He told her: “I FaceTimed you a couple of times,” and Liberty corrected him, saying: “[It was] once… Yeah it was once. “
She added: “It’s hard obviously I still have feelings for you. I just feel like at the time it wasn’t working and I just feel there hasn’t been an effort to make it work properly.”
Jake then dropped a bombshell, telling Liberty that even if they had stayed together, the relationship wouldn’t have worked in the outside world because of his schedule.
He said: “Even if we had been together it wouldn’t have worked, I am so busy.”
Liberty then added: “Kaz and Tyler and everyone else is really busy and they still make time for each other.”
She went on to stress that they obviously “weren’t meant to be” and concluded by telling Jake: “I wish you the best for the future and hope you excel in everything you do.”
Viewers were not impressed with Jake’s comments, and many claimed it proved he never intended to have a long-term relationship with her.
One tweeted: “Then why go on love island in the first place if your too busy to have a girlfriend? You’ve just proved you were fake all along.”
Another added: “Jake to Liberty: ‘Even if we had been together it wouldn’t have worked, I’m too busy’.

A third wrote: “I don’t think Jake is a bad guy he just tried to fake his love for Liberty.”
Liberty and Jake were one of the favourite couples to win before their romance fell apart in the final week.
They coupled up during the first episode and stayed together all the way through the series, with Jake even resisting the temptations of Casa Amor.
However, it was later revealed at movie night that Jake had been egging the other boys on – and the girls saw clip of him admitting he didn’t want to “tear her clothes off”.
It seemed to send the pair on a downward spiral, which ended with Liberty giving him the boot with just days to go before the final.
Both Liberty and Jake went on their final date together despite the break-up and reached a conclusion about their future on their boat trip.
They decided to quit the show and gathered the other stars around the firepit to break the news.
They then left the other four couples to enjoy their final days in the villa before Liam Reardon and Millie Court were crowned winners.
