Neville snubs Man Utd trio including Jadon Sancho as he picks best starting XI

Gary Neville has named his best Manchester United XI, with a host of regular stars missing out including the £73m summer signing of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund

Solskjaer won’t blame Fernandes despite penalty miss

Gary Neville has named his preferred Manchester United starting XI, and it doesn’t bode well for summer signing Jadon Sancho, who was no where to been seen on the Sky Sports pundit’s line-up.

Jadon Sancho signed for United this summer in a deal worth £73million from Borussia Dortmund, but has failed to find his feet since arriving at Old Trafford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also signed Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo this summer, but both signings have made Neville’s preferred team, as other stars also miss out.

United looked to be the real deal this season, but have seen a massive dip in form over the last week, which has caused some concern about Solskjaer’s side.

Neville was asked on Twitter what his preferred United team would be if all stars were fit, and the pundit said: “David De Gea, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane, Scott McTominay, Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, Mason Greenwood, Edinson Cavani, Cristiano Ronaldo.”

It appears that the former United captain prefers Pogba to play in a more holding role, and shocked fans with the inclusion of Cavani, suggesting that he thinks that Ronaldo may best placed out wide.

There was no room for Sancho, but also no room for Marcus Rashford or Fred as all three stars were snubbed by the United legend.

Sancho was signed by United after taking the Bundesliga by storm with Dortmund, scoring 50 goals and registering 64 assists in 137 games across all competitions for the German side, but has looked out of his depth since arriving back in England.

Sancho was originally part of Manchester City’s academy but left the club when he was just 17 as he wanted to find first team football, and Dortmund took a chance on the youngster.

It was a gamble that well and truly paid off, as Sancho was a valuable asset in Germany, recording a staggering 51 assists in just four Bundesliga seasons, and Dortmund received almost ten times the amount they originally paid for the English star this summer.

Rashford was another surprise exclusion, although the winger hasn’t featured this season yet due to shoulder surgery that he received shortly after England’s Euro 2020 campaign.

However, this XI was purely based on if all stars were fit, and the 23-year-old has been excellent for United since breaking into the side at the age of 18, when he became the club’s youngest ever European goalscorer.

Fred was another regular first team player that didn’t make Neville’s cut, but the Brazilian has received a lot of criticism since making the £47m move from Shakhtar Donestk in 2018.

Solskjaer has been urged to sign a top-quality defensive midfielder to take United to the next level, and it remains to be seen whether they will pay the price this season for not securing an alternative to Fred in the summer transfer window.
