A nurse was left horrified after finding a dead fly in his McDonald’s box of fries before binning his and his wife’s whole meal.

Fabrizio Bonucci had finished a long shift as a nurse and ordered from the McDonald’s restaurant on Northumberland Street, Newcastle, for both him and his wife on their four-year wedding anniversary.

A Just Eat driver delivered their order at around 9pm on Sunday but the 36-year-old was disgusted to find a dead fly in his box of fries – after eating half of them already.

Fabrizio and wife Moira, 35, threw their entire order of a Big Mac meal, a Chicken Legend meal, a cheeseburger and nine chicken nuggets in the bin, reports Chronicle Live.

He said: “At first I thought it must have been part of a burnt chip, but when I got a closer look and saw it was a dead fly I was horrified.

“I couldn’t believe it. It’s simply disgusting.

“We couldn’t eat any of it after that and it all went in the bin.”

Fabrizio complained to Just Eat who he says apologised for the disastrous meal but did not offer him a refund for their £20 order.

In the meantime, Moira, 35, ended up cooking up some pasta for the Byker couple to ensure they didn’t go hungry on their wedding anniversary.

Fabrizio has sworn to never order from McDonald’s again following their “horrendous” experience.

He said: “I’d been working all day and only finished at 8pm so I asked Moira if she wanted a McDonald’s to avoid any of us having to cook.

“We were just staying in and watching a movie on TV.

“I’d had no dinner so I was really hungry. It is unbelievable to think this has happened, especially on our anniversary.

“For sure I will not be going to McDonald’s again after this.”

McDonald’s and Just Eat have since apologised to Fabrizio and say they are investigating the discovery.

A Just Eat spokeswoman said: “At Just Eat, we want all of our customers to have a positive experience when using our platform and we’re sorry to hear about this. We’re working with McDonald’s who are looking into the incident.

“We have also been in touch with the customer to make things right.”

A McDonald’s spokesman said: “Food quality and safety are of the utmost importance to us and we place great emphasis on quality control, following rigorous standards in order to avoid any imperfections.

“We are sorry to hear about this customer’s experience, and are currently working with Just Eat to liaise with this customer to help find a resolution.”
