Phillip Schofield was very happy to be reunited with the This Morning make-up artist as he returned to host the ITV show on Monday.

The 59-year-old and co-host Holly Willoughby made their comeback to the daytime TV programme following their summer break, and Phillip was delighted to see one colleague in particular during their first day back.

Taking to his Instagram Stories during an ad break on Monday’s show, the This Morning star filmed himself getting a touch up on set from the ITV makeup artist.

“This is a turn up for the books. Look at this, look at this,” the presenter told his followers, as a masked makeup artist ran a brush over his face.

“Susie’s back! This is the first day she’s been allowed in the studio,” he continued, clearly delighted to be able to enjoy the services of the makeup professional once again.

The Dancing on Ice presenter then went on to reveal how he handled a lack of on-set makeup artists over the past year.

“Normally, my makeup is in a bag, hidden behind that cushion but now I don’t have to do it,” he told viewers while sat on the iconic blue couch.

“I get my touch ups back,” he concluded before he and Susie exploded into a fit of giggles.

On Monday’s edition of This Morning, Phillip and co-host Holly revealed some big changes to the ITV show and coronavirus safety measures.

“We said that we had a bit of news for you. Remember this, the two metre stick that helped keep us safe for the last year and a half,” Phillip began telling viewers during his first show back after the summer.

“Well goodbye to the two metre stick and hello to the one metre stick!” Holly added, with a raucous round of applause filling the studio.

“Oh my gosh, we are so close and yet still so far,” the 40-year-old presenter added.

Adding the the light-hearted atmosphere on set, Phillip went on to joke about the newly implemented restrictions.

“We’re just randomly making up rules here, but this seemed like a good idea,” he told ITV viewers, before cheekily telling his co-star: “You still can’t lick me.”

Some fans of the mid-morning show were confused and frustrated by This Morning’s changing rules.

“Holly and Phil making up the rules as they go along when they’ve posed for new promo pictures together.. why pretend???” pondered one viewer on social media.

“ ‘You can see we are still apart’ Unlike the photos that are posted all over Instagram where we are practically sat in each other’s laps #thismorning,” added another.

The off-screens pal were back This Morning presenting duties following a summer break away.

Throughout their absence, stars such as Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford filled in for the popular presenting duo.

“It’s nice to have a bit of time off over the summer to catch up with friends and family and I love getting out in the garden and pouring a gin and tonic,” Phillip revealed as he returned to his day job on Monday.

“But I love working so I never get holiday blues. I always look forward to getting back to a new series, I’m always happy to get back to work,” he added.
