Detectives have named a woman found dead in a house alongside a seriously injured man – who they want to quiz on suspicion of her murder.

Mother Marta Chmielecka, 31, was discovered inside the home in Kettering, Northamptonshire on Tuesday just after midday.

Police had forced themselves into the £130,000 property where they found Ms Chmielecka’s body and the badly-injured man, 38.

They had been called to the address after reports of concern for a person’s welfare.

He was taken to hospital, where he is in a serious but stable condition, and Northamptonshire Police say they are treating him as a suspect.

Locals say the pair used to be seen together and are believed to have been in a relationship.

Police have zeroed in on a 30 minute nighttime slot some four days before the two were found and believe it could be key to the investigation.

They want anyone who was in Wood Street between 10.30pm and 11pm on Friday, October 15, to come forward.

Detective Inspector Pete Long from the Major Crime Team, said: ‘Our enquiries continue to progress quickly and we have been speaking to a lot of people and gathering a lot of evidence to piece together Marta’s final movements and the circumstances surrounding her death.

‘Specially trained officers continue to support her family and I want to reassure them that a large team of detectives are working on this case and that we are doing everything in our power to get Marta justice.

‘I now want to appeal to anyone who was in Wood Street between 10.30pm and 11pm on Friday, October 15, to come forward, as they may have information that could help us.

‘Even if you think you saw nothing, if you were in the area between these times, please contact us.’

The police think that it was a contained incident and there is no wider risk to members of the public.

Extra foot patrols continue to take place in the local area to reassure the community.

Officers ask anyone who has any concerns, to feel free to approach one of their officers.

Baba Ali, 47, who runs the nearby Raja Superstore, told Northants Live the pair used to come into the shop often.

He said: ‘We are still waiting for the full story. He used to come to buy beer in the store.

‘I know her as well as she used to come in.’
