Strictly Come Dancing star Tom Fletcher will not be performing in next week’s show after both he and dance partner Amy Dowden tested positive for Covid-19.

The McFly musician has however vowed to come back stronger when the pair return in week three of the show.

The couple have received a bye into week three following the news and they are now both in isolation after they received their test results.

As well as missing week two of the popular dance contest, Tom, 36, also had to pull out last minute from a McFly concert due to be held on Sunday night.

He let fans know he was okay though after posting a positive comment on Strictly partner Amy’s Instagram post.

Amy had told her followers: “Unfortunately, Tom and I have tested positive for Covid-19.

“Thank you for all of the support and good luck to all of the couples this week. I will be cheering you all on!”

In the comments section, Tom wrote: “Rest up partner. We’ve got to pull something special out of the bag for week 3.”

Fellow dance pros also took to the statement to offer the duo their well-wishes.

Dianne Buswell wrote: “Love you xxx see you back in the d floor soon”, while reigning champion Oti Mabuse added: “We love you can’t wait to see you soon”

Nancy Xu, who is competing for the first time on the show this year, wrote: ”Love you baby girl. see you back in the dance floor soon”

While the show has been surrounded by controversy following reports that several of the dancers haven’t had their Covid jab, 31-year-old Amy has publicly acknowledged she is vaccinated.

She revealed she was offered her jabs at an early stage due to the fact she suffers from Crohn’s Disease.

Following their diagnosis, a Strictly rep told Mirror Online in a statement: “Tom Fletcher and Amy Dowden have tested positive for Covid-19. The pair are now self-isolating separately following the latest government guidelines.

“While they will both miss Saturday’s live show, Strictly Come Dancing protocols mean that all being well, they will return the following week.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday nights on BBC One, with the results show airing on Sunday nights.
